It was a sad day for McD Mateos and many of our team members and customers on Tuesday, December 13th. This was the last day that our South Capitol restaurant would be open to serve our loyal customers.
Our South Capitol location has been open for 35 years, and it has officially closed to make way for new apartment developments that will be constructed in its place. We’re so sad to see it go and we knew we had to do something special for our last day open.
Our owner, Carlos Mateos, and the legendary Ronald McDonald came out to the store to greet customers on our final day of operation… but we had another surprise up our sleeve
Carlos and Ronald weren’t the only special guests who came out to the restaurant, we had the crew from WPGC 95.5 Joe Clair Morning Show come out to live broadcast from the drive-thru at South Capitol!
Joe Clair Morning Show Co-Host Steph Lova, Richie Rich, and Shack Nd Pack surprised our customers serving them at the drive thru, working the cash register, and interacting with them inside and outside of the restaurant.
Steph Lova interviewed Carlos to discuss what this restaurant has meant to him and the community over the years, and how South Capitol was always the late night spot to go to on the weekends. Check it out here!
But it didn’t stop there. Next, we had Kelly Collis, Morning Show Host of The Tommy Show at 94.7 Fresh FM. Kelly and Ronald served our customers at the drive-thru with huge smiles on their faces as they greeted customers.

Our final special guest from CBS DC Radio was Chepe from El Zol 107.9 who brought lots of energy the moment he stepped in the restaurant.
